About Sino-Dutch Summer School

The International summer school for IC Technology Exchange and High Talent was born during the visit of vice-minister Cao Jianlin to the Netherlands in April 2012. At that time the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation and the Municipality of Changzhou decided to support this idea. Prof kees Beenakeer (back then the Director of Delft University of Technology–Beijing Research Institute and director of Delft Institute of Microsystems and Nanoelectronics) and Prof. G.Q. (Kouchi) Zhang (Chair professor for micro/nanoelectronics system integration and reliability at Delft University of Technology) had the honour to initiate and organise the first summer school the first Summer School on August 6-10, 2012 in Changzhou with “Solid State Lighting” as a theme. Since then, it has become a yearly event that takes place in China, where EE Ph. D. students from famous Chinese universities meet with EE Ph.D. students of the three universities of technology in the Netherlands. The 2013 version took place with Xidian, NWP and Xi’an Jiaotong University on August 19-14 in Xi’an, the 2014 version took place with UESTC in Chengdu, and the 2015 version took place with Tsinghua University in Beijing on August 10-14. This year, it will take place with Fundan University in Shanghai on August 22-28.

The objective of this Summer School is to strengthen the collaboration between China and the Netherlands in the field of micro- and nanoelectronics. Experts both from academia and industry, both from the Netherlands and China, give lectures on all aspects of microelectronics and emerging technologies. The theme of this year is: “nano-devices: The Enabler for Big-Data solutions”.

The summer school also invites some delegates from universities and corporations; it focuses on intensive interaction between students and lecturers, as well on developing soft skills to prepare the students for a successful career in a global and technology demanding world. The event promotes the development of the IC Industry and it creates a network for high level cooperation in a field, which is the basis for almost all future innovations. The summer school also provides an opportunity for discussions on the industrial technology cooperation between China and the Netherlands.

We fully believe that by focusing on the development of top talents and future technology leaders, (with specially designed, high level and dedicated program with high profiled speakers)  the summer school initiative establishes a high level network not only for a fruitful collaborations, but also for future career in an extremely challenging and important field.
